Word of the Week
Each week I choose one word and unpack it from a personal, professional, scientific, and contemplative perspective. The word becomes a lens: a way to look at your life, your relationships, your mind, and the places where you get stuck. At the end, I’ll offer you one simple practice so you can bring the word into your week—as a practice of wise effort.
Ego
Instagram told me this morning that the way to grow is to stop telling stories and start "yapping" — hold a camera to your face and narrate your own head. My first thought was: I'm not yapping enough. Which is exactly the problem. On the ego, the evolutionary mismatch it's living in, and how to put your two eyes back out into the world.
Wisdom
Wisdom is more than knowing the right thing to do. It is the capacity to hold complexity, uncertainty, values, experience, and the intelligence of the body—and then take skillful action. Drawing from psychology, contemplative practice, and the natural world, this week’s reflection explores how wisdom helps us move toward what matters, even when fear comes with us.
Insight
Insight rarely arrives when we force it. Drawing from cognitive psychology and Buddhism, this week’s reflection explores how breakthroughs emerge when we loosen our assumptions, step away from the problem, and see our experience differently. But insight alone is not enough—the real transformation begins when we act on what we now understand.
Flexibility
Psychological flexibility is the ability to stay open, aware, and engaged with life, especially when it is difficult. Dr. Diana Hill reflects on six ways to practice it.
